I strongly believe that if you fail to plan, yes say it with me, YOU PLAN TO FAIL. This is huge to me. I have had the opportunity to lead several ministry teams that in my estimation were doing some pretty cool stuff. In each case MEETINGS are a big part of being a part of a team. I have never really had a problem with this, although I do see the perspective that some people carry, which says why meet so much when there is so much to do. In other words why am I going to another meeting when I should be working (and everyone said, "AMEN"). O.k. I understand where your coming from, trust me I've sat through my share of bad, long meetings. But I also understand the value of a good meeting.
I think its important for any leader to really think through every scheduled meeting. What is the purpose of that meeting? Who should attend that meeting? How long should that meeting be? And then stick too it. I mean honestly can you blame your team for dreading some of the meetings you make them set threw?
It's important to keep your meetings engaging and on target. Each individual should carry the same passion and concern for whatever it is that you are meeting about. Which will make the outcome of that meeting that much better. Some meetings will always be painful, its the necessary evil. But make it a goal to have meetings that matter, that make a difference, and that people want to be a part of.
You say: "Meeting vs. Working"
I say: "Meeting is Working" (my wife called me a nerd for that one)
